February is recognized as Black History Month, and celebrating this month is a reminder of the great contributions and the roles that the African and Caribbean descendants have played within our society. Additionally, it is during this time that our history, accomplishments, legacies, culture, and traditions are being showcased.

WELCOMING THE NEW YEAR

With the backdrop of the COVID19 pandemic and all its woes I hope we can start 2021 with new possibilities.

It is now September 2020 and after a long break student are now ready to resume classes. The mission of the Minister of Education is to ensure that each child is given the opportunity to maximize their full potentials through learning while their mental health and well-being are being protected. This can only be attained if the health and safety within the school system becomes the fundamental principle going forward.

It was at the end of March Break 2020 when all schools in Ontario closed their doors indefinitely due to COVID-19. This was an unprecedented move by the Minister of Education as it impacted more than two million (2,00,000) students in the province. As a result, online learning exploded as students were removed from the classroom environment, and schools had to use an alternative way of teaching. 

Like a tsunami, COVID-19 has thrown the world into a realm of isolation, panic, fear, and death.
